FAQs for Projector Software Classes
Here’s a quick question and answer that may preemptively answer any questions you have:
When will classes be offered?
I am using a Google Form filled out by those interested in the classes, along with my own schedule, to find days/times that work best and scheduling classes then. When you click “book” on a class on my website, you’ll see the days/time currently on offer. Each 6 week-long class will meet at the same day/time for the entire 6 weeks but each set of classes will be at different days/times.
What happens if you miss a class?
Ideally, you’ll sign up for a day/time that works for you through all 6 weeks but I understand that illness or other emergencies may come up that prevent you from attending a class. You’ll lose quite a lot if you aren’t able to attend live, especially in the last 4 classes. If an unavoidable circumstance comes up and another class is running concurrently, hopefully you’ll be able to attend one of those classes as a make up. If this happens to you, send me a message in Discord or an email and we will discuss make up options.
Will you record class and have that posted for people to watch later?
I discussed this with my brother and there isn’t a super simple way to do this. I completely understand it would be helpful for later reference and could be helpful for missed class, however I’d have to screen record the entire class and then upload it unlisted on YouTube, then send you the link, and you’d have to go there. In addition, this would mean recording everyone’s faces and screens who are participating in the class and that may not be something everyone would be comfortable with. Even though it’s not ideal, I have done this for most weeks of Classes 1 & 2. I will not guarantee that every week of every class will be recorded, but it is a possibility I will discuss with each class.
What will we cover in these classes?
These classes will cover PDF Stitcher (briefly) and Affinity Designer. We can talk about other programs in the future if there is a big interest but these two have been most requested.
Week 1 of Class will be an introduction where we first make sure everyone’s technology is working, I’ll introduce the software and make sure everyone has it downloaded and is ready to go, we’ll all introduce ourselves, and we will get familiar with how the classes will run.
Weeks 2 & 3 of Class will be us all using the same free pattern to learn the basics of these two programs.
Weeks 4-6 of Class, I’ll turn you loose with your own patterns but be there to answer questions and help you accomplish the things you need to accomplish. Doing this in a small group setting will be great because everyone can hear the answers to everyone else’s questions and we will be able to cover more information that way but we won’t get overwhelmed with too many different things going on at once. I’ve done this both as an in-class exercise with screens shared and as a discussion coming back after working on your own during the week. Ideally, it will be a bit of both for each class but it does depend on how each class develops.
How will you host these classes?
After a lot of deliberation and consulting with the expert (i.e. my brother), I’ve decided to host this on Discord. Do NOT let this intimidate you. I will have a video that walks you through how to Discord and remember class 1 is all about making sure everyone is ready to go. Discord will let us see each other and each others’ screens during class and let us post pictures and questions via text during the week between classes.

Any special requirements for attending?
You’ll need to be on your computer, not a mobile device, so that we can screen share.
You’ll need a webcam and a microphone. Ones built into your computer are fine and you can buy a webcam/microphone combo for pretty cheap on Amazon if necessary.
The better your internet connection, the better your experience will be but I’m not setting a minimum requirement or anything like that.
You’ll need to download and install the following on your computer: PDF Stitcher (free), Affinity Designer (one time paid), and Discord (free). I’m happy to share resources with you to help you do this before class begins.
I’ll be working on a Windows computer and am most familiar with Windows set ups. You may absolutely join with a Mac but there may be some differences in programs that we will have to work out.
Approach this with confidence. You can absolutely do this and I will help you do it!
